PD breaking news – Symbion opens $40m facility in Melbourne

Distribution centre able to move 10,000 units per hour.

Symbion has officially opened its $40m distribution facility in Keysborough, Melbourne.

Minister for Health Peter Dutton and EBOS Group Limited chairman Rick Christie and ceo Patrick Davies attended the opening.

The 12,000 sqm facility was strategically located to enhance Symbion’s service to its 750 pharmacy and 160 hospital customers across the state, the company said, with 70 vehicles making more than 500 deliveries per day.

It was capable of moving more than 10,000 units of medicine every hour, Symbion said.

Davies said the new centre demonstrated the company’s belief in the Australian pharmacy industry.

“The facility is a shining example of the industry’s potential, creating a sense of certainty in a market where there is a lot of uncertainty.”

Symbion was bought by EBOS in 2013, in a NZ$1.1b transaction (PD 29 May 13).
